RCID

Medical Sensor

Problem

A client approached the RCID with an idea for a medical sensor requiring a proof of concept prototype.

Solution

Using Altium Designer 6, the RCID produced the electronics design. The design uses an Atmel AVR microcontroller and FTDI components to communicate over USB with the PC application. Analogue signals are conditioned and sampled with the data forwarded to the PC application.

The RCID’s electronics design engineers worked closely with the mechanical design engineers to specify and lay out the PCB. The RCID then produced a fully housed and working prototype allowing the client to gather market research and feedback on the use of the device.

Technologies and Tools

  • Schematic capture & PCB layout using Altium Designer 6
  • USB connectivity using FTDI technology
  • Atmel AVR microcontroller
  • C, C++, assembler
